Ready or not, fall is on the way as we resume our St. Andrews Society activities. We hope this issue finds you rested and healthy and ready to get back into the fun of celebrating our Scottish heritage!

Jane and I were far from idle over the summer. I had a more-than-usual four weeks of Boy Scout aquatics, including a week of scuba diving. Then last month we flew to Seattle to help install my successor to lead the Clan Grant Society, and ... oh, yeah ... we put a contract on a new house in Cherokee County! Why didn't somebody remind us we were too old for all this?

But on to what's on the Society calendar:

Fall Meeting - Saturday, September 9, 6:30 PM at FOP Hall in Stone Mountain. We'll welcome eight new members into our Society, review the 2007 budget approved by the board, and have written reports from committee chairs. And our own Dr. Richard Hunter will talk to us about the many accomplishments of Scots both famous and not so famous, a particularly appropriate program for our new members (and maybe some helpful reminders for the rest of us!). Please come about 5:30 if you can help set up tables and chairs, stay after our meeting to put them away, vacuum and leave the hall better than we found it. We want to make sure that FOP continues to appreciate us as much as we enjoy using their facility!

Stone Mountain Highland Games - October 20-22, 34th annual games. Please pick a time slot to host our St. Andrews tent or help with the tartan banners.

St. Andrew's Dinner - Saturday, November 18 at Dunwoody Country Club. We had such a good time last year that we've booked the Atlanta Swing Orchestra once again for our dinner/dance (If it ain't broke, don't fix it!). We'll also have a round of toasts and install our new officers and board members.

Christmas Party - Saturday, December 3, FOP Hall, Stone Mountain. This continues to be a favorite event - Santa and Mrs. Claus, children playing games and opening presents, good food and drink - what's not to like?

Hogmanay - Definitely a work in progress. Anyone interested in volunteering a venue centrally located for our membership? Suggestions gratefully accepted!

Burns Nicht Dinner - Saturday, January 20, Druid Hills Golf Club. Put on your calendars now!

We look forward to seeing you all soon!
