Tartan Day Scottish Golf Tournament Players, Teams, Format and Rules You do not have to be of Scottish descent or belong to a Clan to enter the tournament; nor do you have to have clan sponsorship. There is a maximum of 128 players and 32 teams. Each team is sponsored by a Clan and will play under that Clan's banner (Tartan.) All players (men and woman) are required to wear Scottish golf attire, either a kilt or golf knickers. A scramble format will be used. A team handicap will be determined and assigned to each team by the professionals of the RGCC staff. The Atlanta St. Andrew's Society Taran Day Golf Tournament Trophy will be awarded to the team with the lowest gross score. The Clan name of hte winning team will be engraved on the trophy. Each player on the team that posts the lowest gross score and those on the team with low new score will receive individual trophies. Ties will be broken by comparing scores in order of highest-to-lowest hole handicaps. There will be prizes for any tee shot ending up within a 10-foot circle of the hole on all par three holes. In additional there will be two prizes awarded for the longest drives (in the fairway) on hole numbers 7 and 18. The first hole-in-one on number hole 17 will win a car. To be eligible for any of these prizes or the car, you must make a separate $20 donation to the scholarship fund prior to the start of the tournament. In the grand tradition of this great Scottish game, all players are expected to conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all times. Each player has one attempt per shop, there will be no mulligan's. Once a ball is chosen for a given shot, the player whose shot is being used must hit first; the other players must drop (not place) their balls over the original ball position. Each team must use at least two tee shots and two scoring putts from each player. No Sky Caddies or GPD's allowed. Yardage books will be provided. In order to accommodate all players, practice tee warm-ups are limited to 10 minutes per player. Players may enter individually, as a couple, a threesome, or a complete four-player team. Both men and woman may enter and play on same sex teams. Entry fee per player is $125. Because the field is limited to a maximum of 128 players, slots will be filled in a first-paid, first-entered basis. Players can enter as representatives of a specific Clan, or request to play for a specific Clan. Verifiable recent handicaps are required. Those without handicaps will be assigned and indexed. Local and club rules will be explained by the RGCC Pro prior to the start of the tournament. There will be lunch served immediately after the tournament, and trophies and prizes will be awarded at that time. You do not have to be in attendance at the lunch to receive a trophy or prize.
